Missouri Winter Wheat Production Expected to be Down 21 Percent from Year Ago

A government forecast is estimating winter wheat production in Missouri at 44 million bushels this year. The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported Wednesday the anticipated wheat harvest in Missouri is down 21 percent from last year’s crop of nearly 56 million bushels. Cereal Leaf Beetle Spotted in Southern Missouri Wheat Fields

Cereal leaf beetle has been found on both sides of the state in southern Missouri. Cereal leaf beetle strips the leaves of wheat and can reduce yields. Wheat growers should scout fields for the beetle, said Wayne Bailey, University of Missouri Extension entomologist. The threshold amount is one larva per stem.
